Contemporary Chick Lit | Fiction

The first lesson learned directly from birth for a debutante is that every occasion is befitting a celebration. Whether it's a wedding, or perhaps even a divorce, a debutante maximizes her potential by inviting the right people with the best connections in hope to score the coveted write-up on Page 6. Lauren Blount is no exception. Raised with a silver spoon in her mouth, Lauren wants for nothing yet desires to have it all. With the recent demise of her short-lived marriage, Lauren decides to make the best of her situation and form a new club, The Debutant Divorcée. As with any club, membership has its privileges and with this group of girls, that rule definitely applies!

Sylvie Mortimer keeps pinching herself just to make sure she is not hallucinating! At a wedding in Anguilla, she meets the man of her dreams and winds up tying the knot with one of the most eligible bachelors on the dating scene. Wealthy, talented and drop-dead gorgeous, Sylvie could not have done any better if she had dreamed up this man herself. Then how come she is spending her honeymoon with a couple of divorcées who are determined to make the best of what would seem an awful situation? From clandestine business trips to suspicious hotel receipts, Sylvie's no longer sure she bagged the ultimate prize.

THE DEBUTANTE DIVORCEE is the second novel for the prolific contributing editor of Vogue, Plum Sykes. As with her debut novel, BERGDORF BLONDES, Sykes expertly describes the cut-throat world of New York City's high society with her tongue and check references from the wanna-be social climbers to the ultimate trend setters who all vie for the top rung. The authenticity of her characters lies in her star power as she drops names, such as Lindsay Lohan, convincing her reader that she knows the inside scoop even on the current IT girl! Laugh out-loud funny, satirical and heart warming, Sykes manages to do it all as she serves up yet another dish of caviar.

SUMMARY

In 2004, Plum Sykes jet-setted to bestsellerdom with Bergdorf Blondes, a playful debut novel that introduced readers to the glamorous world of PAPs (Park Avenue Princesses). Now the fabulous girls from the world of Bergdorf Blondes are back.

Lauren Blount's life is beautifully arranged: she's very rich, very young, very thin, very pretty -- and very, very divorced. She is the most reckless and glamorous of Manhattan's Debutante Divorcé set. Lauren captivates Sylvia Mortimer, the group's token newlywed. But while Lauren sets out on a morality-lite, orgasm-heavy "Make Out Challenge," Sylvia discovers her marriage isn't exactly an Eternity ad -- especially when the city's most notorious Husband Huntress zeros in on her spouse.

Navigating a world of Divorce Showers and Power Christenings, Socialite Babies, Professional Friends, Gorgeous West Village Wives, and Un-Googleable Men, Sylvia fears her husband is straying and starts asking, as Lauren says, "Who needs a husband anyway?" With her delightful mix of charm, cheek, and satire, Sykes has written a second novel that promises to be every bit as beloved as her smash debut.
