always quick with a joke and a smile. Beneath that charming
exterior, he is quietly struggling with the fear that his
injury could take away his hockey career. When he learns
that Abby is temporarily staying with his sister and his
best friend, he offers her the spare room in his apartment.
This sets the stage for an arrangement that involves banter,
cooking, and lots of chemistry.Β
This sports romance explores the tropes of forced
proximity, best friendβs sister, and friends-to-
lovers. Abby and Jack not only share a sizzling chemistry,
but their characters also have an emotional depth. I
appreciate the author's thoughtful and sensitive portrayal
of mental health, which adds a meaningful layer to the
story.
The supporting characters blend well into the
plot. The only sour spot in the story is Abbyβs
father, who has yet to learn his lessons from the previous
book. I wish I had seen some character development in
him.Β
