Lucy Score writes small-town romance with a little bit of spice and lots of quirky characters. I started reading MISTAKES WERE MADE without realizing it was the second book in the Story Lake series. I felt I was missing too much of the backstory, so I stopped a couple of chapters in to read the first book, STORY OF MY LIFE. I’m really glad I did, since I loved them both but enjoyed more reading them in order.
The series starts off with burned out romance author Hazel Hart impulsively buying a house on the internet and moving for inspiration to small-town Pennsylvania. She ends up falling in love with hot contractor Cam Bishop, her writing muse.
In MISTAKES WERE MADE, the storyline is set in the same crazy town in Pennsylvania with Ultimate Bingo tournaments and a mayor still in high school, but focuses on Hazel’s agent Zoey and Cam’s attorney/contractor brother, Gage. A New York City girl, from her designer wardrobe to her skill of ordering takeout, Zoey is only biding time in Story Lake, PA, until she can get her job back at the agency and Hazel back on the best seller list. She wouldn’t mind hooking up for a little fun with Gage, but he is looking for the future Mrs. Bishop. Opposites that fall off the roof at first sight are attracted to one another. This dialogue is snarky and funny, but also deals with tragic events where bad things happen, and the characters deal with them. Really loved the dynamic between the born, adopted, and found families. Can’t wait for more books in the series.
