The latest in The Thursday Murder Club is THE IMPOSSIBLE FORTUNE. The mystery opens with wedding preparations for Joyce's daughter. The case presents itself when the best man approaches Elizabeth to discuss someone trying to kill them.
As Elizabeth and Joyce go to meet the best man the next day to discuss what's going on with them, they find his office ransacked and him missing. Thus starts the unravelling of the mystery as the club members follow clues, meet people, and try to uncover things. Soon they discover an impossible fortune to be behind the disappearance and killing of people who hold this fortune.
This is my first read of the Thursday Murder Club series. I liked the other one (We solve Murders) better, though. This series title felt more nostalgic in terms of its characters and the unhurried way they go about following the trail of murder and mayhem. This story has enough mystery and pull, though, to hold the reader's attention until the end.
What I liked -
- The nostalgic vibes of yesteryear mystery shows are only possible with updated technology.
- The mystery kept my attention.
- The characters, for me, did not stand out from the story itself. They did not overwhelm or shine more than the story, which is always a plus when it comes to mystery and thrillers.
- In the mood for a mystery and a group of people in their golden years going about life and solving murders while they have breakfast, pick up a copy now.
