Prudence Welch has lived her entire life in the same small town, her dreams of adventure long tucked away beneath layers of routine and responsibility. Caring for her mother, who is battling early-onset Alzheimer’s, and helping her overwhelmed father at the family gas station leaves little room for anything else, especially not for herself.
Milo Kablukov is back in town after years on the road, running from a past that never quite let go. He’s here only to help his brother launch a brewery, or so he thinks. When Milo meets Prue, he sees someone who’s just as stuck in place as he once was, though for very different reasons. But where Milo once ran, Prue stayed.
As their lives begin to intertwine, Prue and Milo discover that sometimes, love doesn't mean escape — it means facing what holds you back. Together, they must navigate the messy bonds of family and the weight of disease.
PEOPLE WATCHING is one of those stories that doesn’t shout, it whispers, and somehow that whisper stays after the final page.
Prudence is a beautifully written character. She is a quiet dreamer who has never left her small town but still knows exactly what she wants from life. Though she is grounded by duty and the care of her ailing mother, there’s a strength in her stillness.
By contrast, Milo is a man constantly in motion, shaped by a rocky past and a need to outrun it. But everything begins to shift when he meets Prue. Their chemistry is both tender and sizzling in all the right places.
Hannah Bonam-Young has a gift for crafting not just romantic leads, but fully realized secondary characters. Milo’s siblings and Prue’s parents’ characters are heartbreakingly real. The way the townsfolk rally around Prue’s mother adds a beautiful layer of community and hope that ties the story together.
Overall, PEOPLE WATCHING is a beautiful read.
