Now retired, Lottie Jones used to work in a bank, but that wasn't her only work. She was also a murderer. You see, she had a problem with rage, and if someone angered her, she simply killed them. Think of it as a form of release, and she was efficient, if nothing else. She was once a person of interest in some of the killings, but there just wasn't enough evidence to charge her. Forty years have gone by, and with a name change, she now leads a quiet life. She has friends, goes to church, plays bingo and just tries to deal with her aging body and old house. This all changed when an investigative reporter showed up at her door, telling her she was going to create a docuseries about her past. This did not sit well with Lottie, and to put it bluntly, she simply couldn't allow it. So, what to do? TOO OLD FOR THIS, by Samantha Downing, is a cleverly crafted dark tale in which the protagonist is the narrator. Lottie knows what she has done and happily shares why. Even though she is a serial killer, she is witty and wry. Facing the fact that she may have to come out of retirement, she navigates a whole new world of technology in which every step can be traced. Murder was a lot easier forty years ago without hidden cameras and pesky tracking apps. As the well-plotted story moves along, Lottie's life becomes more and more complicated, and perhaps for the first time, her life might be in danger. Or worse, she could end up in prison. TOO OLD FOR THIS is an entertaining story about a most memorable woman. Highly recommended.
