They aren't your typical cast of characters. Three queer women born in three different centuries whose lives are on a collision course to intersect. How and why? They are vampires, two by choice and one who was a victim. Meet Sabine, the most exotic and powerful of them all, perhaps. She hails from the sixteenth century. She and Charlotte became a couple in 1837. What they crave is freedom and for a long time, the relationship is mostly perfect. Over time cracks and flaws surface and the relationship changes. In order to survive, Charlotte knows what she has to do. Her definition of freedom has to change. In 2019, we meet Alice who is a student at Harvard. She hopes to come out of her shell and recreate herself. After a one-night stand, she does change. However, this is not a change she sought.
At this point, I will say that I have never read this genre before and I didn't know what to expect. Having said this, after reading BURY OUR BONES IN THE MIDNIGHT SOIL, by V.E. Schwab, I am impressed. The author has skillfully crafted a story that combines history, horror and passion. Ultimately, this is a love story peppered with intense revenge and obsession. Well-plotted and unique, BURY OUR BONES IN THE MIDNIGHT SOIL is an exciting and engrossing story. Highly recommended.
