With the high-profile wedding of John and Irene Benson
behind them, the phone at Second Chances has been ringing
off the hook. Deciding that they'll only do three more
weddings before Valentine's Day, Jo, Elaine, Lily and Sarah
know they have their work cut out for them. Thankfully they
each have their own special talents to be able to pull it
off. The Benson wedding may have brought them instant
success, but the break-up of the Bensons could also be
their downfall.
Jo and Andrew's relationship may be new, but they know they
love each other. They decide to keep things quiet and take
it slow and see what happens. When Irene Benson calls
saying she needs Andrew, he drops everything to help her
with what will be a much-publicized break-up. He has no
idea what's in store for him when he arrives in New York.
Jo understands because she knows that John and Irene have
been like parents to Andrew.
In Sarah's heart, she knows her relationship with longtime
boyfriend Jason is over. But she's loved him for so long
and he is the father of her son, so in her mind she tries
to reason that they can make a long-distance relationship
work. Unexpectedly, Sutter Jones, a friend from when Sarah
was a child living on the reservation, shows up. Now a
lawyer, he has news that her mother is living in New York
and trying to find her. However, Sarah's mother died when
she was a baby.
When Sarah, Jo, Lily and Elaine plan a trip to New York for
a shopping spree for the three upcoming weddings, they plan
to mix business with pleasure. Sarah will spend the long
weekend with her son and Jason and maybe seek out her
supposed mother's apartment. Jo, Lily and Elaine will drop
in on Andrew and Irene to see if they can be of any help.
But when they arrive, nothing is as expected.
Sarah has to face what her heart has known all along, that
her relationship with Jason is truly over. And she just
might like to meet this woman who claims to be her mother.
Jo, Lily and Elaine aren't met warmly by Andrew. Much to
Jo's heartbreak and embarrassment, they're sent on their
way. When Irene shows up unannounced at Lily's New York
apartment, she informs the ladies that Andrew will be
staying indefinitely and implies that she and Andrew are
lovers. Lily is outraged and plans a little revenge.
What started out as a beautiful weekend ends in heartache,
but the women return to West Hope to get on with their
lives and the planning of three spectacular weddings.
In this third book in the Second Time Around series, I
found the characters' personalities to fit perfectly with
their roles at Second Chances, making all the stories fun
to read. These women love each other as best friends should
and are open and honest and say things to each other that
only friends can. This is a saga that could go on forever.
And I would enjoy reading every story as it unfolds. I
recommend all three books: ONCE UPON A BRIDE, TWICE UPON A
WEDDING and THREE TIMES A CHARM.
With their fledgling business Second Chances facing its
first big break, four best friends turned wedding
consultants face second chances–and challenges–of their
own. For always-practical, always-predictable Elaine, it’s a
time for a total makeover . . . but is the new “dream-her”
really her? For Lily, the free-spirited, free-spending
sprite, it was the chance to find the one thing missing from
her life that not even money could buy. And while Sarah, the
self-reliant artist, faces a crisis that proves just how
much she needs her friends, ex-publicist Jo is tantalizingly
closer to true love than she can ever possibly imagine.
Ex-husbands, computer dating, teenage kids–the
world’s much different than when they first said “I do,” but
one thing’s the same: they’re all hoping their second chance
will be a charm.
