Eddie Flynn has an interesting history. He's an ex-con artist turned defense attorney which he is surprisingly good at. His former skills have made him both street-wise and savvy. Surprising to even him, he has been hired to defend a murder suspect in a high-profile murder case. A very high-profile case. A former NYC mayor has been brutally murdered and the evidence points to both his daughters, Sophia and Alexandra. The prosecution wants to try both women at the same time thinking no matter what the outcome is, he wins. Unless of course they are both acquitted. Eddie is to represent Sophia and he believes in her innocence. Will his gut instinct be enough to get her proven innocent? Alexandra's attorney believes that her client is innocent, too. In FIFTY FIFTY, by Steve Cavanagh, readers are offered the opportunity to pick which sister is a murderer. Since they are accusing each other and there are motives galore, picking one isn't easy.
The cast of characters is a mixed group and includes a retired judge with a loveable dog named Clarence Darrow, a mob boss, a young lawyer with a promising future and a private detective no one should ever mess with. Cleverly plotted and engrossing from start to finish, this book is really hard to put down.
This book is so well written that I found myself picking the sister I was positive was guilty only to find myself changing my mind as the story progressed. The author's knowledge of the legal system is impressive and it is presented in layman's terms. Packed with action, surprises and a shocking twist, FIFTY FIFTY is well worth reading. Highly recommended.
