One might say Ruby Johnson is a monster. At the very least, she is dangerous because no one sees her for who and what she really is...at least not at first. Once a child of privilege, she and her sick mother now barely eke out an existence. Ruby works as a maid and a sometimes nanny for New York's elite in the very same neighborhood where she was raised. After witnessing a murder one fateful night, she decides not to inform the authorities. Instead, she crafts a diabolical and murderous plan from which she can destroy lives and benefit financially. After all, who would suspect this?
Meet Eddie Flynn. To say he is a nondescript attorney would be a big mistake. He is a former ex-con artist (who knew?) who has launched a new career as a New York City attorney who takes on cases other lawyers might walk away from. When he agrees to take on the case of Dr. John Jackson, the man accused of the murder Ruby witnesses things get really tense. Add to the mix a contract on Eddie's life, an assassin with an obsession with Marlon Brando movies and one of the most unusual teams I have ever encountered readers are treated to a fast-moving and thoroughly engrossing tale.
Skillfully crafted, in WITNESS 8, by Steve Cavanagh, the author expertly handles this multi-layered story. Well plotted, filled with pulsating action, twists and turns and surprises this book is difficult to put down as it races towards its surprising conclusion. Exciting and propulsive, this book is a great read. Highly recommended.
