FIRST TIME CALLER is the latest from author B. K. Borison after her popular Lovelight Farm series latest of which was Business Causal, released towards the end of 2024 being a big hit.
In this latest book, we follow Radio Host Aiden Valentine and single mom Lucie (Lu). Lucie's 13-year-old calls the local Baltimore radio show - Heart Strings to get advice on her mother's single status and to get her dating again. Lu lives next door to her baby daddy and is his best friend, too. This is a story of Lu's family to get her out of her single life and cure her romantic loneliness.
I loved the radio show premise and how it brings a love cynic and a love-hesitant single mom together. The dynamic between the characters, both romantic and non-romantic is so fun, sweet and totally grabs your attention. The professions of the lead pair - a radio host and a car mechanic, this is a new one for me; I must say is a refreshing pairing.
The dates Lu goes on as part of the radio show are relatable and show how in real life too, we go through the roller coaster called dating life.
What I liked and enjoyed most was reading about how Lu and Aiden got together and went from strangers to lovers. Their journey towards a romantic relationship was fun, playful, intense and besides being exactly how Lu wanted it to be; it was a great joy to get to know them and see their relationship blossom. The little moments of their pairing where they fell for each other had me cheering for love. The trio of Lu's daughter, baby daddy and his partner were adorable and entertaining, something which is rare given their situation. It made the story all the more special for me.
FIRST TIME CALLER, for me, has playfulness, emotional intensity, a fun, loyal family angle and most of all that giddiness and butterfly moments of the start of a relationship. Pick up a copy and you'll end up enjoying it.
A hopeless romantic meets a jaded radio host in this cozy, Sleepless in Seattle–inspired love story from beloved author B.K. Borison.
Aiden Valentine has a secret: he’s fallen out of love with love. And as the host of Baltimore’s romance hotline, that’s a bit of a problem. But when a young girl calls in to the station asking for dating advice for her mom, the interview goes viral, thrusting Aiden and Heartstrings into the limelight.
Lucie Stone thought she was doing just fine. She has a good job; an incredible family; and a smart, slightly devious kid. But when all of Baltimore is suddenly scrutinizing her love life—or lack thereof—she begins to question if she’s as happy as she believed. Maybe a little more romance wouldn’t be such a bad thing.
Everyone wants Lucie to find her happy ending…even the handsome, temperamental man calling the shots. But when sparks start to fly behind the scenes, Lucie must make the final decision between the radio-sponsored happily ever after or the man in the headphones next to her.
