The Earl of Devonsfield needs to find an heir, and fast.
With his life coming to an end soon, he just can't allow
his title to go back to the Crown. After putting his man of
affairs to work, it's soon discovered he has twin nephews,
Griffin and Garnet St. Albans. However, the first-born has
never been determined. But the earl has a plan -- whichever
of them marries first will inherit the title.
Griffin St. Albans loves astronomy. One day he'd love to
have an appointment in the Royal Astronomical Society, but
that's only a dream. While checking his settings on his
telescope on the cliffs near his home, he discovers a
lovely lady standing below on a ledge, trying to recapture
her bonnet. After helping her to stable ground, she
declares he's responsible for the bonnet being lost and
gives him a card noting where to send her a new one.
Hannah Chillton plans to make her way in life as a
matchmaker, training her falcon to help her with her deeds.
However, her aunts, the Featherton ladies, don't believe
one should charge for good deeds and they go about proving
their point.
While on the way to Bath, Hannah and her aunts have a
little accident with a stranger on the road. Thinking the
man looks familiar, it takes a moment for Hannah to realize
the arrogant man sitting across from her in the carriage is
the man she thought was so nice before, Mr. St. Albans.
Hannah's aunts waste no time trying to make a match and
invite Mr. St. Albans to recover at their home in Bath.
When Griffin declares his intentions to his twin brother
regarding Hannah, Garnet decides to help Griffin get the
girl. One moment, Hannah likes Mr. St. Albans and the next
moment she can't stand him. When she's sure she's finally
fallen in love with the man, she sees him with another
woman, which breaks her heart. Griffin wants to marry
Hannah, but he's unable to tell her the truth of the
situation due to an agreement made with his uncle and
brother.
LOVE IS IN THE HEIR is very charming and quite romantic.
The characters are a blast! I felt so bad for Griffin and
Hannah when they wanted to be together and had such
difficulty doing so. A really great story to read on a lazy
day.
Fiddlesticks! I am sure the ladies Letitia and Viola
Featherton are wrong when it comes to matchmaking. They
insist that it has all to do with love. I, Miss Hannah
Chillton, believe one has only to bring a couple together
and let nature take its true course. To prove my point, I
secretly plan to match the ladies themselves. Lud, what a
challenge! They are practically in their dotage. And love
certainly does not signify in the match the Featherton
sisters are making for me. True, when Lord St. Albans and
I first met, he fair took my breath away. But after we
accidentally ran him down with our carriage, I became
convinced he belongs to that most despicable class of men:
rakes. His arrogance is insufferable…except when he
appears so shy and considerate that I almost think St.
Albans is two different men. But that cannot be possible.
Or can it?
