Who hasn't Googled themselves? Isabelle Duprees hasn't and has no intention of doing so. She could care less about what anyone thinks of her. After all, she is a successful and sought-after businesswoman who has it all. Or so it seems until her estranged older sister shows up and practically dares her to do it. Maybe it was the champagne or the annoyance of her sister showing up unexpectedly that led Isabelle to do a Google search. What she discovered seemed to be impossible. She found three other women with her name, date of birth and other commonalities. How was this possible? Her sister took charge and they embarked on a road trip to each of the women's homes. They needed answers and an explanation. What they got was a lot more than either expected.
ALL THE OTHER ME, a novel by Jody Holford, is a beautifully told story about choices and what might have been. Isabelle is a fascinating protagonist who at a young age found herself basically raising herself. Her father's death when she was a child and a troubled mother who didn't parent well left her no other choice. After leaving home at seventeen to study at MIT, her life proceeded exactly as she planned. Just as she customized her New York City penthouse, she curated her life and her heart. With a deep seeded inner drive, she made sure she would never be vulnerable again. Her sister, Elaina, is also an interesting character. Witty and brutally frank, she does all she can to break into the armor Isabella has built around her heart. Her chances of succeeding were low.
There is much about the story that makes it engrossing. Expertly woven together are threads of honesty, hurts and forgiveness. Old relationships take on new characteristics and, once again, Isabelle had to make choices. Is who she is now enough or will her past continue to define her?
Packed with emotions, witty dialogue and heartfelt, ALL THE OTHER ME is well worth reading. Highly recommended.
Perfect for fans of The Rehearsals by Annette Christie and What Might Have Been by Holly Miller, All the Other Me is a poignant story of what it means to come to terms with who you are, and who you can be.
