All six women, Amy, Gabrielle, Katy, Brooke, Olivia and Naomi, belong to a club no one wants to belong to. All six had sisters who had been murdered by their abusive partners and all six men are walking free. The women have all sought therapy from Mia, who specializes in trauma counseling. Mia acknowledged the victims had not been given justice and offered the group a way to rectify this. All they had to do was kill the murderers. KILL YOURS, KILL MINE by Katherine Kovacic is a version of Strangers On A Train, but on steroids. Were they capable of doing this? Could they actually get away with killing six people?
The author skillfully presents and handles the large cast of characters. They are a varied group with one commonality: their lives have been profoundly altered and affected by their grief. They are well defined and readers get to know them through their own voices. Mia's has a story about her sister, too. However, hers is different from the others. Ever present through the entire endeavor, she played an important role, So much so that she may shock readers at the unexpected conclusion.
KILL YOURS, KILL MINE deals with serious issues and it is a profound novel. Skillfully crafted and moving, this book is well worth reading. Highly recommended.
Mia's grief counselling practice, The Pleiades, is named for the seven sisters from Greek mythology who were the companions of the Goddess of the Hunt—and who, in some stories, die of grief or are killed to be saved from attackers.
Mia has been gathering broken women together for a radical form of group therapy. Amy. Gabrielle. Katy. Brooke. Olivia. Five women crippled with grief by the murders of their sisters—and seething with rage that the partners who killed them all walk free. She just needs one more.
When Mia meets Naomi, she knows she has found the perfect candidate, but Naomi is resistant. She only needs to meet the others before she realizes that they, too, are consumed with desire for hands-on revenge. Under Mia's guidance, the women devise a plan to heal themselves. They'll take back their lives from the men who took their sisters. The premise is satisfyingly simple: I'll kill yours if you kill mine...
