Twenty-four years have passed since four college coeds went missing from a North Carolina university. One of the women, Jessica, was a local girl, who left behind Lindsey, her younger sister. To say that Jessica's disappearance had a profound impact on Lindsey's life is a great understatement. Lindsey was six years old when she last saw her sister.
With few memories of her and their parents who rarely spoke about her, Jessica remained an enigma. When a current popular true crime podcast about the missing girls and the sudden appearance of a journalist researching the case coincides with the discovery of the remains of some of the girls in the local lake, Jessica delves into her own quest for answers. Finally, the local authorities declared there is now a murder investigation. What really happened twenty-four years ago and why?
THE LAKE OF LOST GIRLS by Katherine Greene is told in dual timelines and by multiple voices and by doing so the past and the present collide yielding shocking revelations.
The cast of characters is flawed, and some are deeply troubled. There is no shortage of suspects, but a two-decade span of time can hide much. There are more questions than answers. The story is packed with innuendos and vague rumors. Interpersonal relationships are puzzling and complicated, especially that of Jessica's with her parents.
Haunting and profound, THE LAKE OF LOST GIRLS keeps readers engaged from start to finish. As for the conclusion, I never saw it coming. Highly recommended.
Told in alternating timelines, The Lake of Lost Girls is a haunting novel that will thrill fans of All Good People Here and We Are All the Same in the Dark.
