MISTLETOE AND MISCHIEF by Debbie Macomber consists of two novellas: A CEDAR COVE CHRISTMAS and 1225 CHRISTMAS TREE LANE.
A CEDAR COVE CHRISTMAS is a modern-day version of the original Christmas story. Mary Jo Wyse, single and pregnant, comes to Cedar Cove to find the father of her baby. She is unsuccessful and finds herself staying in an apartment in a barn that houses animals being used in a nativity scene. Amongst them is a camel, one who bites. In the meantime, her brothers, the three Wyse men, also travel to Cedar Cove as they want to bring her home. None were totally prepared for what happened next. In 1225 CHRISTMAS TREE LANE we meet Beth Morehouse, a divorcee who owns a Christmas tree farm. Her two daughters have told her that her ex-husband wants to join them for Christmas. Little does she know that this reunion has been carefully constructed by her daughters. What could go wrong? Someone has left ten puppies at her door and her ex shows up with a stunning "friend". This will be a memorable Christmas, for sure.
Debbie Macomber is a gifted storyteller. Both stories are heartfelt and packed with emotion. She has skillfully crafted a large cast of believable characters who have encountered very real-life trials and tribulations. They are a caring and loving group who live in a very special place. Reading both stories is a delightful experience. They are filled with hope, love and the promise of second chances. Highly recommended.
