They haven't known each other very long, but they share something from the past and so, they bonded. Now, Darcy has invited Camilla and Kate to accompany her on her post-divorce celebration trip to a luxurious resort in the Maldives. The setting is stunning and all they have to do is to enjoy the amenities. What could go wrong? As it turns out, plenty.
BAD TOURISTS, by Caro Carver, is told in multiple voices. There is a large cast of characters and all play a significant part in the narrative and many have secrets. It becomes obvious early in the trip that there may be dangerous people on the island. But, who and why?
Well-plotted and multi-layered, readers are kept engaged from start to finish. The story takes many twists and turns and shocking surprises are revealed. The author's character development is impressive. So much so that readers are kept guessing about who is capable of what. As the story races towards its conclusion things become violent and no one knows who will survive. Even though BAD TOURISTS deals with trauma and violence, it also includes themes of female friendship, trust and loyalty.
I found BAD TOURISTS to be an exciting and unusual story. Highly recommended.
