All Ben wanted was to find out what happened to his girlfriend and her son who had simply vanished. With the police not seeming to care, he took drastic measures even though he knew it would cost him his freedom. He contacted an FBI agent and offered to trade information. The FBI sent in Andy Nearland who worked undercover as a "specialist". Β To do her job she had to become one of Ben's firefighting crew. Β They were very good at what they did. Β So good in fact that they used their skills, bravery and special equipment to pull off heists. Β Millions of dollars worth of heists. Was Andy in over her head?
DEVIL'S KITCHEN, by Candice Fox, is a richly and vividly detailed story. Β So much so, that whatever happens in the narrative, readers will be totally immersed into the story. Β Be it a fire, an altercation or any other action scene, readers are right there watching it and experiencing it. The well depicted characters are complex, deeply flawed and seriously dangerous. Β Their relationships are deep and intense. Β No matter how society might judge them, they consider themselves to be family.
DEVIL'S KITCHEN is both well-structured and well-plotted. Β The author takes readers from one harrowing situation to another and leaves us wondering how such courageous people could be so flawed. While Andy was of a different ilk, she, too, had her own back story which makes her a fascinating character. Her skills and techniques were epic, but would they lead her to what she was looking for?
Fast-paced and exciting, I found DEVIL'S KITCHEN to be an excellent psychological thriller. Β Highly recommended.
