The pandemic left a horrid scar on the village of Blackrig in the Scottish Highlands. During the lockdown, outsiders were brought in against the rules to use the "party house" located on a nearby estate. The partiers brought the virus ith them which took the lives of several children and one adult. Now, with restrictions lifted the owners of the property are going to open the house to tourists again. When some of the outraged villagers take matters into their own hands, a grisly discovery is made. The body of a young woman who went missing five years ago is discovered and when it is determined she was murdered all the suspicions of the past resurface. Who is responsible? This is the world Londoner Joanne has entered when she comes to Blackrig at the invitation of Greg, the estate's gamekeeper. Will Joanne regret her decision? Tension runs high through this well-crafted psychological thriller. Joanne and Greg have so many secrets in their pasts, that they have become experts in lying and the art of omission. Interestingly, they seem to realize this about each other, but their physical attraction seems to take precedence. Greg is an especially complex man. Flawed and with a tendency to be volatile, we begin to wonder what he is capable of, especially now that the detectives have launched an active investigation. Joanne is not who she presents herself to be. While some of her motives for being in Blackrig are questionable, she is unwittingly drawn into a powder keg. As for the rest of the villagers, it turns out that some of them have secrets, too, that they would just as soon never reveal. THE PARTY HOUSE, by Lin Anderson, is packed with suspense, twists and turns and secrets. It is engrossing from start to finish. Highly recommended.
The Party House by Lin Anderson is a deeply atmospheric psychological thriller set in the Scottish Highlands, for fans of Lucy Foley and Ruth Ware.
