Lucinda, a witch, is about to give birth to the child of a
man who's put a price on her head. He also wants the child
dead, as it could mean his ruin. In labor in a hidden
cabin, the baby is breech and Lucinda is alone. Enter
Jackson Wulf, son of the notorious Wulf family. Cursed by a
witch centuries ago, the men are doomed to become
werewolves if ever they fall in love. Jackson thinks he may
break the curse by killing a witch, which is why he's
tracked down Lucinda. But thinking of killing a witch and
actually killing a woman who's suffering through childbirth
are two different things. However, she may die anyway,
unless she can talk Jackson into helping her deliver her
baby, then keeping her child safe in return for helping him
lift the curse. It sounds like a good plan to Jackson; he
just didn't count on falling in love with her.
This second book in The Wild Wulfs of London series was
great fun to read. The setting is authentic, the characters
as wonderful as in THE DARK ONE (the first installment) and
the story perfectly in tune with the ongoing storyline. I
enjoyed it immensely and look forward to the next one.
Running from angry villagers and the man who ravaged her,
the witch Lucinda flees into the forest to have her child.
But Lord Jackson Wulf hunts her down, believing her death
will break the family curse that transforms him into a
monster. Instead of killing the witch, Jackson is moved by
her beauty and desperate plight. And Lucinda seizes the
chance to find safety for herself and her babe when a
bargain is struck between this outcast woman and this
doomed man — and sealed by their marriage in name only...
In return for his protection, Lucinda has promised that her
magick can free Jackson from his torment. But this pretty
witch soon finds herself in danger of being seduced by
Jackson’s charms and pursued by the man who would see both
her and her child dead. Can she trust a Wulf with her
safety and the safety of her child? Can she trust her heart
to Jackson? To surrender to a Wulf is a terrible risk, for
love will either unleash the beast within the man...or
finally set him free.
