Mystery Cozy

In SCAREDY CAT by Sofie Ryan, a ghost hunter’s murder challenges the sleuthing skills of Elvis and Charlotte’s Angels. Sarah Grayson and her friend Detective Michelle Andrews stumble over a dead body while on the fundraising North Harbor Spring House Tour.  While Sarah and Michelle are surprised to discover a body on the tour, Rose Jackson recruits Elvis, Sarah’s extraordinary cat, to taste-test her pet treats. The Gladstone House, a bed and breakfast run by Annie Hastings and her granddaughter Emily, had been in the family for nearly 200 years. Rumor is the house is haunted by Emmeline Gladstone, killed by her fiancé Captain Joseph Phillips in the 1700s.

Mark Steele is the present-day murder victim. Steele is the TV host of Night Moves, a show investigating the validity of ghosts and hauntings nationwide. Steele tried to persuade Annie and Emily to let him do a show about Gladstone House but was consistently refused. The good news is that both Annie and Emily seem to have alibis for the murder time since Steele’s body was found in an upstairs room of Gladstone House.

Mark Steel’s TV producer Delia Watson meets Sarah and explains that Sarah’s friend Jess says Sarah and her friends can find the killer. Charlotte’s Angels Detective Agency gains a new client, and the team meets to organize their strategy. Alfred, or Mr. P as he often referred to, got a Private Investigator’s license so the Rose, Charlotte, Liz, and Sarah team could earn money to serve clients.

As the Angels start interviewing and chasing clues, Sarah works hard to find, restore and create products for the Second Chance antique and second-hand store she and Elvis own and manage. As the private eyes begin to see details, figure out who benefits, and discover what drove Mark Steele to pester Annie Hastings about Gladstone House, things start to come together.

Sofie Ryan’s SCAREDY CAT is an intriguing read with engaging characters and a fascinating mystery. Elvis, a unique feline and well-developed character, makes Second Chance Cat mysteries an entertaining experience. Meow.

SUMMARY

Secondhand store owner Sarah Grayson and her affectionate rescue cat, Elvis, will scare up a few leads to find a killer in the newest installment of this captivating New York Times bestselling series.

After a long, cold, and snowy winter, it seems as though spring may be arriving early in Maine. Sarah Grayson is busy at her store, Second Chance, and she’s looking forward to an afternoon break from the hustle and bustle, tagging along to the North Harbor Spring House Tour with her friend Detective Michelle Andrews.

But it turns out one of the houses has a haunted history, and when a ghost hunter is found dead on the premises, Sarah knows the best way to uncover the killer/to solve the mystery is by investigating the not-so-dearly departed. With help from Elvis and Charlotte’s Angels, the crew of senior citizen private detectives who work out of the store, she’ll close the case on this creepy crime.
