Veterinarian Jessica Popper (no jokes please!) has her
hands full with her mobile practice, but she makes time for
some sleuthing on the side when her best friend, fellow
veterinarian Suzanne Fox, is accused of murder.
When Suzanne's ex's fiancée is murdered, Suzanne becomes
the prime suspect after neighbors give police a description
matching her. Although Suzanne denies any involvement,
she's not completely up front with the police, leading them
to believe they have their killer. Jess begins her own
investigation, which takes her into the heart of Long
Island wine country. In addition to working on her
investigation, Jess must deal with live-in boyfriend Nick
in her space, hosting an alliterative talk show about pets
and a dummy that turns up in the oddest places. Suspects
are plenty and varied, and Jess will need more than a
little luck to discover the killer before that killer turns
his sights on her!
This latest installment in Ms. Baxter's Reigning Cats &
Dogs mysteries is my favorite! It's a neatly crafted
mystery, dropping clever clues throughout and giving the
reader some fun spooks. Jessica Popper is an entertaining
amateur sleuth, supported by a cast of fun, familiar two-
and four-legged characters.
Can a vet detective catch a killer who's hopping mad?
Veterinarian and amateur sleuth Jessica Popper races down
the rabbit hole and into a vintage case of passion and
betrayal in Long Island's elite wine country in…
HARE TODAY, DEAD TOMORROW
It's harvest time, but this season's crop includes
chardonnay, merlot…and murder. The victim is heir to one of
the North Fork's most prestigious wineries–and if the crime
isn't shocking enough, the prime suspect is one of Jessie's
closest friends!
Between managing her menagerie of pets, including Lou, the
one-eyed Dalmatian, her tailless Westie, Max, and a tiger
kitten who thinks she's queen of the jungle, commitment-
phobic Jess struggles to adjust to a new addition to her
household: live-in boyfriend Nick Burby. But even that
proves easy compared to the challenge of catching a killer
who's left nothing behind but a "hare"–a stuffed bunny
rabbit. To clear her friend's name, Jess must maneuver
through a warren of bizarre twists and more suspects than a
bunny has offspring–and she'll need her own lucky rabbit's
foot to avoid becoming this killer's next victim…
