Audiobook narrated by Stephanie Racine and Richard Armitage
Rock Paper Scissors is the latest thriller from Alice Feeney, and it features a couple whose life is on the rocks. Amelia and Adam go away for the weekend as a last ditch effort to save their marriage, and the story opens with them on the way to their weekend away, flashing back and forth between the past and the present as we work our way up to their couple issues.
I have to say that I thought this book was brilliant. I loved the glimpse into Ameila and Adam’s marriage, I loved the letters written on the anniversaries, and I loved how tense this story was. Told from both Adam and Amelia’s points of view, it’s clear they are having marital problems, and while they’re open to working things out, it doesn’t feel like either would be disappointed if they didn’t. That’s the fun of this book. It’s obvious they don’t like each other very much, but whether or not they love each other is a whole other ball game.
The setting in this book was so well done. The creepy converted chapel was a character in and of itself, and the aura here reminded me of THE TURN OF THE KEY by Ruth Ware. The chapel was an important part of the story that really set the scene and added another layer that made the story so thrilling. And the snowstorm that has them stranded is the icing on the cake. The twists and turns in this book were so plentiful. Just when you think you’ve reached the last twist, they keep on coming. I will say that I saw the first twist just before it hit, but to me, the timing was perfect. When the author sets it up so perfectly that you figure it out five seconds before it happens, they’ve done a fabulous job. The end was pretty jaw dropping, and even now, I’m left wondering if that really happened.
Having read and loved this author previously, my expectations for Rock Paper Scissors was pretty high. And it’s safe to say they were met. If you’re looking for a twisty thrille, this is the one for you.
Narration: As soon as I saw the narrators for this book, I already knew the audio was going to be phenomenal. After all, Stephanie Racine and Richard Armitage narrated the author’s previous book, His & Hers, and I loved their narration! It was the same here. I thought they represented the characters perfectly, and I can’t imagine anyone else narrating this book. I will definitely have my eye on any books they narrate in the future.
