"Moxie gets an old pony instead of a barrel racer, but she's in for a surprise!"

This story reminds me of the old Champion the Wonder Horse series. A young lady named Moxie Wyoming, on her tenth birthday, is hoping to be given a horse of her own to ride around the ranch. However, Moxie’s and her dad’s concept of an ideal pony for her are quite different. Instead of a sparky barrel racer, Moxie is given a schoolmaster, a pony who is retiring at the age of thirty. She doesn’t know it, but she is in for A WILD RIDE.

Misty, the elderly black mare, has quite a personality, and after she settles in and Moxie tries on her grandma’s pink cowgirl boots, they go for a ride which contains surprises. I won’t spoil the story. Suffice to say that Moxie and her best pal Pickle Turner, whose dad works on the ranch, have to do some sleuthing, in an adventure concerning a herd of wild mustangs.

At the end of this illustrated storybook by Niki Danforth we learn some facts about Mustang horses and Grizzly bears. The drawings are clear and show us the people, scenery and the sometimes strange situations. Lots of young people will be keen to move to Laramie or visit a rodeo after reading A WILD RIDE, first in the ‘Misty and Moxie Wyoming’ series. I think the story will suit readers from six to ten years old.

SUMMARY

This ColorRead With Me™ Storybook is an opportunity not only for adults to read an adventure story to children as young as five, but for kids of all ages to also color the lovely drawings and bring their own creativity to the process of what the artist has already started.

A young girl with rodeo dreams. A worn-out mare with an incredible secret. This old horse is about to teach Moxie some magical new tricks…

Moxie Wyoming Woodson would give anything to be a rodeo star. But when her father brings home a broken-down mare called Misty, Moxie's excitement turns into disappointment in a hurry. She knows that whooping it up on an old sway-backed mare won't win her any medals.

With boundless compassion for all animals, Moxie is determined to care for the worn-out horse. But when Moxie and her friend get wind of an illegal mustang roundup, she wishes her birthday present could help her play detective. It's only after she receives a mysterious package from her grandfather that she learns there may be more to Misty than meets the eye…

With the horse thieves closing in, can Moxie and Misty rope in the crooked cowboy gang, or will the young sleuth’s hopes be trampled in the dust?

If you like plucky cowgirls, heartwarming animal adventures, and a light sprinkling of magic, then buy A Wild Ride to gallop into a magical horse adventure today!
