Rebecca “Bex” and Prince Nicholas made it down the aisle only to have a disgraceful rumor start circulating as they are heading to their reception. Immediately throwing themselves into hiding, they are loving the simple life in Scotland. It is giving them time to be a humble, un-royal couple. Just when things are calming down in the rumor mill, an emergency forces them back to London, and right back into the spotlight. Prince Freddie, Nick’s brother, has been facing the brunt of public appearances with their impossibly hard-to-please father. Freddie is also part of the reason Nick and Bex exiled themselves. Forcing them all back together seems to be a recipe for disaster. Unfortunately for Bex, the Queen has made it Bex’s mission to fix it. Scandals, finding love, dealing with loss, and family secrets all come together in a tale only royalty could create for themselves and overcome.
THE HEIR AFFAIR is the much-anticipated follow-up to THE ROYAL WE and it will leave readers begging for book three. While this book would be great as a stand-alone, I would recommend reading THE ROYAL WE before THE HEIR AFFAIR… just so you don’t miss out on any of the juicy details as to how Bex and Nick got where they are. Any fan, such as myself, who is the least bit fascinated by royals, especially British royals, will want to devour this series. THE HEIR AFFAIR is full of scandal and secrets and it seems to draw certain parallels to today’s royals.
The whole cast of characters from the first book make appearances throughout this installment and they are just as charming, devious, and sarcastic as ever. One thing I love about the relationship of these characters is their closeness and sense of loyalty and family, by blood or not, regardless of what is unfolding around them. I enjoyed the inside look into what being a royal entails, and the inner struggle of someone trying to make their mark within the family dynamic, no matter what role is played.
THE HEIR AFFAIR is the ideal sequel to THE ROYAL WE and a guilt-free way to get some royal scandals with a romantic, comedic twist.
Making it up the aisle was the easy part: Rebecca "Bex" Porter must survive her own scandals and adjust to royal British life in this "timely and positively delicious" follow-up to The Royal We that's "just as fun, charming, and delightful as the first" (Taylor Jenkins Reid)
After a scandalous secret turns their fairy-tale wedding into a nightmare, Rebecca "Bex" Porter and her husband Prince Nicholas are in self-imposed exile. The public is angry. The Queen is even angrier. And the press is salivating. Cutting themselves off from friends and family, and escaping the world's judgmental eyes, feels like the best way to protect their fragile, all-consuming romance.
But when a crisis forces the new Duke and Duchess back to London, the Band-Aid they'd placed over their problems starts to peel at the edges. Now, as old family secrets and new ones threaten to derail her new royal life, Bex has to face the emotional wreckage she and Nick left behind: with the Queen, with the world, and with Nick's brother Freddie, whose sins may not be so easily forgotten -- nor forgiven.
