Thriller Police Procedural | Romance Suspense

J.D. Robb’s In Death series is one of those series that I love to read no matter what the season is. I’m always in the mood to read about Eve and Roarke and in this latest installment to the series, we see how a lover’s quarrel can result in a disastrous event.

The main couple of the book, Eve and Roarke, have always been my favorites. But in this particular one, there seems to be less of a focus on Roarke and his relationship with Eve. Instead, Robb spends more time on the mystery as well as some other the secondary cast whom I also adore. Having these developments with their characters truly makes this book feel more full. I think it also gives readers something enjoyable to read even as the gruesome details of the mystery and murders are played out. It creates a wonderful balance that makes this book a lot easier to read.

I would have loved to see more of Roarke in this book, but then again, I always wish for more Roarke. All in all, FAITHLESS IN DEATH is another solid installment in the series, fusing together love and death in a seamless way. Only J.D. Robb can write a story that’s as detailed and thrilling as this book is.

SUMMARY

In the new Eve Dallas police thriller from the #1 New York Times-bestselling author, what looked like a lover’s quarrel turned fatal has larger--and more terrifying--motives behind it…

The scene in the West Village studio appears to be classic crime-of-passion: two wineglasses by the bed, music playing, and a young sculptor named Ariel Byrd with the back of her head bashed in. But when Dallas tracks down the wealthy Upper East Side woman who called 911, the details don’t add up. Gwen Huffman is wealthy, elegant, comforted by her handsome fiancé as she sheds tears over the trauma of finding the body--but why did it take an hour to report it? And why is she lying about little things?

As Eve and her team look into Gwen, her past, and the people around her, they find that the lies are about more than murder. As with sculpture, they need to chip away at the layers of deception to find the shape within--and soon they’re getting the FBI involved in a case that involves a sinister, fanatical group and a stunning criminal conspiracy.
