Women's Fiction Contemporary

California gal Elizabeth Barnes has it all.  She loves her dream job, a powerful position at Duchess Games that comes with a generous salary and stock options. And her lovely apartment in a super neighborhood is the icing on the cake. That is until her boss, Cecelia, and the head of Human Resources calls her into the office and fire her, effective at once. All because of a disastrous and unforgivable remark Elizabeth made on TV at the Metro Expo. No apologies or explanations are accepted. When her boss shows her the clause in her contract that prohibits this behavior, Elizbeth knows she is finished. Security is called to escort her out of the building and she has to take a walk of shame with over 100 of her colleagues watching...

As time passes, Elizabeth is shunned by all of her friends and co-workers. None of the job allpications she submits are answered and she has no idea what to do next. Then she receives a phone call from England where a man claims to be her Uncle Rowan, her father's brother. Elizabeth tells him she doesn't have an uncle or any other family, since the death of her father six months ago. But Rowan insists they are related and eh's holding a piece of property that belonged to Elizabeth's father and he needs her to come take possession of it. Elizabeth decides to make the trip across the pond, sell the property, do a little sightseeing, and then return home.

The little town of Fargrove is like something out of a fairy tale. Spotty WiFi almost everywhere, Elizabeth can't even check her phone or email messages. Her Aunt Trudy and Uncle Rowan Barnes are warm and wonderful, welcoming their long-lost niece with open arms. Soon everyone in this magical village knowns who Elizabeth is and opens their heart to her. Elizabeth discovers that Rowan is a famous painter and he is preparing for a gallery show and could use some cataloging help. Elizabeth begins to help him with that and even starts doing a little painting of her own, starting with a portrait of Rowan and Trudy's dog. It's well-received and other friends beg her to paint their pets. Has Elizabeth found a new career?

On the evening of a party hosted by her family, Elizabeth finds a lost little puppy almost drowned and it's love at first sight. She names the puppy Georgina. Elizabeth also meets James Holworthy, the handsome owner of the local brewery. Their relationship get HOT and Elizabeth soon develops deep feelings for James. James, on the other hand, is wary of long-term relationships because he was badly hurt in his last one and he is not anxious to try it again. He is smitten with Elizabeth, though, and wants to talk her into staying in Fargrove, even when she is offered the perfect job back in San Fransisco. But is this were Elizabeth truly belongs? Can she pass up the opportunity waiting for her back home?

Victoria Schade knows how to tell a sweet story of finding love in the most unexpected places and discovering your dreams. You don't have to be a dog lover to enjoy the adorable fur babies, or Beatrice and Blossom, two sheep who steal the show. Ms. Schade is a celebrity on Animal Planet and brings her vast knowlege of animals to this delightful story that I loved. Her characters are colorful and real, especially Elizabeth and James.

I enjoyed the descriptions of the paintings by Uncle Rowan, the beehive visits at Reid's coffee house, the little town that became home to Elizabeth and so many sweet sub-plots all add to a wonderful book.  Georgina and James are neck in neck as to stole more of my heart.  You will enjoy this one and it will leave you with smiles and an "I feel good" moment.  Well done, Victoria Schade. WHO RESCUED WHO  hit it out of the park!

SUMMARY

A few rough breaks lead a woman at the end of her leash to journey across the pond to fetch a surprise inheritance--but the dogs she rescues along the way have other ideas.

The plan was simple: Elizabeth would suffer through a quick trip to her late father's family homestead in the English countryside, try not to think about how she was unjustly fired from her dream job, claim her inheritance, and hop on the next flight back to Silicon Valley where she can get her life back on track.

The plan does not include rescuing an abandoned black and white puppy. Or bonding with her long-lost aunt and uncle, their Border Collie, and their two very opinionated sheep. Or falling for the handsome local who runs the town's craft brewery. As Elizabeth's brief visit to Fargrove turns into an extended stay, she discovers that she has more in common with the new puppy than she realized.
