Kate used to love Christmas. But that was before her husband died and things got tough. This year she’s determined to make Christmas extra special for her son. Jack has been begging for an advent calendar. With little money to spare, Kate creates a calendar and hides a Christmassy adventure inside. Together they will create magical Christmas moments. She didn’t count on life’s struggles. Christmas is supposed to be a happy time of year, but everything hits her all at once. Her job forces her to stand outside selling Christmas trees in the frigid air and also places her in charge of a charity event for the season. She struggles to find time to pull everything together. Her son’s school wants to expel him and the alternative school isn’t an option. She’s trying to save money for Jack’s Christmas gifts, but she struggles with putting food on the table and heating their small apartment. Kate longs for something good to happen, but she never imagines how each struggle will create a new opportunity for her.

25 DAYS ‘TIL CHRISTMAS contains 25 chapters leading up to Christmas. While it is a Christmas story, it tackles heavy topics like grief, poverty, depression, sexual harassment, bullies, and suicidal thoughts. Both Kate and Daniel struggle throughout the holiday season, but they lean on each other and become a bright spot in each other’s world. It’s an emotional read, but the book has many bright spots including Jack’s love for Christmas, the advent calendar activities, and the charity event. It’s a realistic portrayal of how people struggle during the holiday season. While the ending is a bit rushed, the happily ever after shines through.

SUMMARY

In this heartwarming, feel-good holiday novel, one woman needs to find a little inspiration in the 25 days leading up to Christmas to help her remember the magic of the season and the magic of falling in love—perfect for fans of Jenny Colgan and Josie Silver.

Kate Potter used to love Christmas. A few years ago, she would have been wrapping her presents in September and baking mince pies on Halloween, counting down the days and hours to Christmas. But that was before Kate’s husband left for the army and never came home. Now she can hardly stand December at all.

Kate can’t deny she’s lonely, yet she doesn’t think she’s ready for romance. She knows that her son, Jack, needs a Christmas to remember—just like Kate needs a miracle to help her finally move forward with her life. So she’s decided if there isn’t a miracle on its way, she’ll just have to make her own.

As Kate’s advent countdown to the best Christmas ever begins, she soon realizes that even with the best laid plans, you can’t plan for the unexpected. For when the path of the loneliest woman in town crosses with that of the loneliest man, these two destined hearts might find a way to save the holiday for both of them.
