AT THE PLEASURE OF THE PRESIDENT is the final book in the Perfect Gentlemen series that I have been looking forward to reading. This final story is about the most famous person in this group who became the President of the United States. I was really hoping to see what made Zack Hayes one of the Perfect Gentlemen of Creighton Academy and to finally see who he really is. I can honestly say that Shayla Black and Lexi Blake did not disappoint me. This series is about conspiracy, murder, strong friendships, loyalty, and love.
The series began with the murder of the wife of the future President which leads to several conspiracies. A few years after Zack becomes President, one of the Perfect Gentlemen (Maddox Crawford) is murdered which leads to more conspiracies. This murder will send his friends into a tailspin. All the men in this group are powerful in their own rights. Gabe Bond is a business mogul who along with his better half, Everly, will discover disturbing information that revealed that Maddox was murdered. Connor Sparks is a CIA operative who meets the love of his life, Lara, when articles from her tabloid threaten his friend Zack. Then there is Naval officer Dax Spencer who meets his mate NCIS Agent Holland when she investigates the death of his father. And then finally there is Roman Calder who is Chief of Staff for his best friend, President Zack Hayes. Roman is the complex one of the group who once had a heated affair with Gus, which eventually will be rekindled.
Now we finally get to see a side of Zack that we never saw in the previous books. Elizabeth Matthews serves as the Press Secretary for Zack. There were always unresolved feelings between Zack and Elizabeth. But the day finally comes when Zack and Elizabeth seize the moment. This is when you get to see why Zack was one of the Perfect Gentlemen. The true revelations behind all the conspiracies will put a strain on the relationship between Zack and Elizabeth. All of the unanswered questions will finally be resolved along with what really happened to Maddox.
This is a great series that makes you wonder about what can happen in politics, especially regarding the White House. It also shows what strong friendships and love looks like and how far one would go when these things are threatened. The end of AT THE PLEASURE OF THE PRESIDENT left me with the hope of a possible spin-off with the offspring of the Perfect Gentlemen!
