James Qwilleran leads a very structured life. A confirmed bachelor, his days are filled with what some would deem as quite mundane tasks. He visits his favorite jaunts, writes his much anticipated column for the town newspaper, and courts the recently retired librarian who now manages a bookstore. If it were not for the Klingenschoen fortune that he inherited on a fluke, Mr. Q, as he friends prefer to call him, would be just an ordinary guy. Instead, he is a philanthropist who turned over his millions to create a foundation that supports many worthy endeavors in the small town of Pickax, 400 miles north of everywhere, in Moose County. To add to his eccentric flair, Mr. Q lives with two interesting characters which just happen to be Siamese cats!
As the town prepares for its one hundred and fifty year anniversary, the citizens are all in a flutter trying to plan the ultimate celebration. Parades routes are planned, flowers are picked, and an auction for kittens from the local animal shelter is being masterminded. When the nephew of a wealthy, local family comes to town under the pretense of seeing Jim's architectural gem, mysterious things start happening. People are not who they seem to be and Koko's bizarre behavior is a sure sign that all is not well in Pickax. With torrential rainstorms on the way, Mr.Q. must spring into action to solve the peculiar happenings in this rather Mayberry sort of town.
THE CAT WHO DROPPED A BOMBSHELL is the twenty-eighth book in the popular CAT WHO series. Lilian Jackson Braun delivers a storyline that soothes the soul while tempting the mind. Her characters are like an old pair of shoes, comfortable and well-loved. The plot is light and entertaining, while at the same time, it draws the reader in with the hint of suspense. The cats are endearing and amusing as Braun humorously describes a typical day in the life of a spoiled cat. THE CAT WHO DROPPED A BOMBSHELL is a feline lover's dream.
While the town of Pickax is swept up in its
sesquicentennial celebrations, Koko has developed a
strange new hobby: He drops himself from balconies,
occasionally landing in the oddest of places. When a young
man comes to visit his wealthy relatives, Koko plummets
straight onto his head!
Meanwhile, a hurricane is brewing, and the visitor's
family members soon fall deathly ill. Qwill has his work
cut out for him as Pickax-as foreshadowed by Koko-is about
to be hit by a bombshell.
