MOON CHOSEN by P.C. Cast is the first book in the Tales of a New World Book Series. I am a huge fan of Cast! I have read so many of her books and my favorite series written by her is the House of Night Book Series. I enjoyed reading this book and experiencing a whole new world that Cast has created. She really took time and a lot of research in creating this unique world. The many details and descriptions of the beasts, clans, and tribes create the perfect setting for this novel.

The beginning of this book is where Cast sets the tone and it is a little slow reading at first. Once this is established the story quickly picks up and is worth the wait. While reading you follow alongside Mari and Leda as they make their way to their hidden burrow. They prepare healing potions using the surrounding leaves and flowers and hunt in the dangerous unknown forest, all while trying to avoid Wolf Spiders. Cast writes so vividly that you can see the beautiful colors and sounds of the nearby animals or men who turned feral after the devastating the Night Fever. Everything seems so real that you could almost reach out and touch it. The setting is what our world becomes many years after the sun destroyed it.

Everyone in this book tries to survive in their own way. Some you will fall in love with, while others you will despise from the start. Cast is such an experienced and amazing writer which shines through in this book. There are so many interesting characters that will take you on magical adventures. You will relate to Mari, with her many doubts and dreams. Her mother is the Moon Woman from the Earth Walker Clan. She is very talented but must hide her true abilities and gifts from the Clan out of fear of being exiled. Nik is always on the outskirts needing to belong but never noticed. He is the most talented archer in his tribe.
