Deacon Tucker is the leader of an elite group of men. They are the best of the best recruited from around the world for their special skills and the fact that someone wanted each of them dead. The Gravediggers, as they are known, are exactly that dead and dead they must stay in order to do their jobs. Their current assignment is to stop "The Day of Destiny" a major terrorist attack aimed at the United States.
The team is located out of a funeral home in Last Stop, Texas, run by the town's only mortician, Tess Sherman. Tess had plans to buy and run the funeral home until a mysterious woman showed up and bought it out from under her. The woman did keep Tess on and allowed her to run the place, but she insisted that Tess hire a group of gorgeous men that work out a lot.
Tess is not a stupid woman and she knows that this many good looking, fit guys with a private gym must be up to something. She just never imagined the truth of it.
Deacon has to work hard to make his team look even remotely normal in this small town. They need to stay hidden to accomplish their mission, and they must follow the rules at all times or next time they will not come back from the dead. One of the most important rules is never fall in love, commitments cause problems. So why is it Deacon can't stop thinking about Tess and how can he possibly have her and keep them both alive.
Liliana Hart has come up with a great idea in THE DARKEST CORNER. It is not a hot zombie book, that would be gross. She creates a method of bringing these guys back and uses the perfect cover of a funeral home to do it. There is action, adventure, and romance. Those three things make a romance enjoyable for me. I like romances best when there is fighting and things blowing up.
THE DARKEST CORNER is book one in Liliana Hart's new Gravedigger series and like most of her series, it is off to a great start. Tess, Deacon and the rest of the team are a great group of mess up characters that I can't wait to see grow and break the rules.
