Peri and Jack have just returned from a mission to steal some very valuable technology when joking around, Jack summons Rachel Morgan. Realizing that she is not in her world Rachel must find a way to get home. Peri at first thinks Rachel is a crazy thief until things make her believe Rachel and they work together to get her back home. Even Jenks is able to jump a dead ley line and help Rachel.
Being a big fan of The Hollows series, it's nice to get a Rachel Morgan story, even if it is a short one. Also, seeing how Kim Harrison was able to bring together her two very separate worlds is fascinating and well done.
Kim Harrison describes it best as fan fiction done by her and she is absolutely correct. The two worlds mesh together well and the characters of Peri and Rachel with Jenks help make a great trio. WAYLAID is for fans of Kim Harrison and both her series.
Not to mention just a little bit that's thrown in of Rachel's world makes you happy to see she is doing well. There are also some small hints telling you where the future is going to lead Peri, if only she can remember.
WAYLAID is short story writing at its best. You get the best of two worlds, more wonderful details on one you loved, more introduction and temptation into one you are going to love.
