Fantasy Urban

Makenna Fraser is having lunch with Rake Danescu. A lunch she didn't tell her partner Ian about. She is humiliated and annoyed to see Ian and Kylie, another co-worker, at a table in the restaurant. During the lunch, a man goes crazy insisting there are supernatural creatures there. While Makenna is interviewed by the police they learn about a new drug called Brimstone; Brimstone allows normal people to see the supernatural creatures who populate the city of New York. Ian and Makenna are called to the death of a drug lord; an elf whow is now missing his heart. As a seer for the SPI, Makenna has seen many abnormal deaths, but this is unusual even for the SPI. Even more unusual is that there is no evidence of an exit by normal means. Worse, when Makenna looks at a wall of the crime scene she sees a portal. Since this isn't a skill she ever possessed before, she is concerned about this new ability. THE BRIMSTONE DECEPTION is the third book in the SPI Files series. Ms. Shearin has created a world which combines the natural and the supernatural seamlessly. Her readers wait avidly for her next release, knowing the story will be engrossing and entertaining. THE BRIMSTONE DECEPTION meets all expectations. Watching Rake's attempts to seduce Makenna while Ian glowers at him, is so much fun for the reader. The story is complicated keeping the reader guessing about the identity of the new drug dealer who is taking out the competition. The end has a twist which leaves the reader with a promise of more to come.

SUMMARY

Men in Black meets Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum in the new urban fantasy novel starring seer Makenna Fraser and her fellow agents at Supernatural Protection & Investigation.

The agents of Supernatural Protection & Investigations (SPI) know that fighting evil is a full-time job, especially when a new designer drug—with mind-blowing side effects—hits the streets... It’s called Brimstone. And after the first few hits, you’ll see every supernatural beast sharing the sidewalk, train, or office with you. After that, you’ll start seeing the really scary stuff. I’m Makenna Fraser, seer for the SPI. And the collateral damage caused by Brimstone is something I’d like to unsee: dead drug dealers missing their hearts—and souls. Because your local pusher doesn’t stand a chance against the new cartel muscling its way into New York. And since the drug can only be produced with magic and molten brimstone fresh from Hell, that means a rift to the underworld is open somewhere in the city. And when—not if—the cartel loses control of it, well... It’s going to be Hell on earth.
