FOLLOW ME BACK continues where LEAD ME NOT left off. Therefore, I do recommend reading LEAD ME NOT first. Maxx Demelo checks himself into rehab after an overdose. He knew the two most important people in his life; his brother Landon and Aubrey have cut him out of their lives. When he overdosed, he had hit rock bottom. Now the only thing keeping him going is his determination to make it right by Landon and to win Aubrey back. Which isn't easy once he is released from rehab, his patience is truly tested when he now finds himself struggling to survive on the legal side of things.
When Maxx's lies and drug use get too bad to ignore, Aubrey realizes that she can not save Maxx from himself and if she continues down this road with Maxx, he will destroy her too. When Aubrey has to be the one to save Maxx from an overdose, she finally reaches her breaking point. However when days turn to weeks, Aubrey slowly begins to pick up the pieces of her broken heart. However, now her career is in jeopardy. She has been put on academic suspension from the counseling program for getting involved with a client. However she finds that she is not as upset as she thought, and now begins to questions if a substance abuse counselor is the right career for her or not. Just when she feels like she is on the right path and things are looking up, Maxx contacts her from rehab.
FOLLOW ME BACK is an intense read, told in both Maxx and Aubrey's point of view, which will send the reader on a roller coaster of emotions. A. Meredith Walter's Twisted Love series is centered around addiction and the destruction it can usually bring. I love how she also touches upon other aspects of toxic relationships such as abusive relationships. This is a series that is tough, brutal, and honest and will stay with readers. A. Meredith Walters is still a newer author for me, having only read her Twisted Love series, but her writing is impeccable and will really draw the reader into the darker side of this subject matter and not sugar coat it or romanticize it. If you are looking for something a bit different, then this is the series for you.
