Coburn Grant wants to move on. On the eve of his divorce, Coburn has to give a best man speech but to his dismay and utter shock, his soon-to-ex-wife, Diana, shows up too. The whole speech flies out the window and somehow he ends making the speech all about them instead of the bride and groom. Realizing he needs closure from the wife who left him abruptly and has been avoiding him for past year, he convinces her to get away to talk.
Diana Taylor needs closure too before venturing off to Africa to join Doctors Without Borders. Her need for one last night leads to her plans going awry when first Coburn refuses to divorce immediately the next day and then she finds out she is pregnant. Hoping to hide as long as she can, Diana runs off to Africa only for Coburn to follow her and drag her to an isolated private island to work on their marriage. But will they be able to work past their differences and work on the marriage for the sake of their child, or will they finally get divorced as Diana originally wanted?
REUNITED FOR THE BILLIONAIRE'S LEGACY is much more emotionally satisfying read as compared to Harrison's story in TEMPTED BY HER BILLIONAIRE BOSS. For once I connected with the male lead and really liked Coburn. From the get-go I could feel his hurt and angst, despite all the time which had past, on his just leaving him without a word. I liked the speech too: it spoke volumes and I agreed with him. He is not perfect though. He is an old fashioned, typical alpha male who wants things his way once he makes up his mind. Being an old fashioned person myself, I agree with most of his viewpoints even if some were a little sexist. But I loved him mostly because he knows what is right and wrong, is willing to go to lengths to right the wrong without compromising his morals, and is not afraid to admit his mistakes. He is definitely a much better man; complete, clear-headed, out-of-the box thinker, mature man than Harrison and his father combined.
On the other hand, I was prepared to dislike Diana from the beginning especially when I found her excuse for running away every time. Sure she is ambitious, insecure about Coburn and needing to prove herself, she sounded a tad immature for a surgeon. But once Coburn got through to her, I finally liked how much she matured and began to think clearly. I liked her finally admitting her mistakes and how she stood by Coburn during the most difficult time of his life. Most importantly, I loved how they were both able to finally talk about what bothered them, open up and trust each other without emotions clouding their actions except that last time. In that, Diana was correct. Coburn was being an ass. The ending just left me in happy tears.
REUNITED FOR THE BILLIONAIRE'S LEGACY is an amazing read to understand the importance of communication in a relationship, complete honesty and trust, compromise and patience. Albeit short, Ms. Hayward covered these points beautifully especially the role of a father. Can be read as a standalone and is not to be missed.
