Dawn Delgado is a single mother of twin girls and the ex-wife of Jimmy "Mad Dog" Sanchez, a member of the Devil's Brethren motorcycle club. After Jimmy took to abusing one of the girls, Dawn took the girls and moved them to Sinner motorcycle club territory and filed for divorce. Needless to say, Jimmy didn't take it kindly that she left, so he set her up with a fake drug deal, all caught on video, and the courts deemed Dawn an unfit mother and removed the girls from her care. Since Jimmy never wanted the girls to begin with, he placed them in the care of his sister, Shelley-Anne.
Since losing the girls, Dawn has been trying all she can do to get the girls back and pay off the ever climbing price her ex-sister in law is charging her to see the girls. Going as far as working three jobs, the last thing she needs or wants is the distraction of Cade O'Conner, outlaw biker.
Cade is a member of the Sinner's motorcycle club and known as quite the playboy. But when it comes to Dawn, everything in him changes. After a one night stand turned to two nights, Cade has not been able to get Dawn out of his mind, but she wants nothing to do with a motorcycle club again. When he realizes just how deep in danger Dawn and her girls are, his only instinct is to protect them. And the only way to do that is to make Dawn his old lady.
Dawn struggles over the fact that the courts had deemed her an unfit mother. She had used the legal system in order to finally get away from the abusive relationship she had with Jimmy, only to have him use the same system against her. She must get her name cleared in order to live her life without having to constantly look over her shoulder. Dawn reluctantly accepts Cade's offer to protect her and the girls. With her new "old lady" status she uses the biker underground to locate those involved with Jimmy in setting her up.
I absolutely loved this book. Sarah Castille has created a strong character base and each one has had their own turbulent life that brings them to this point. Dawn came from a loving home with her mother and father, but when they died, she was placed in an uncle's home, which is where the abuse starts. Not only did she escape her uncle's advances, but she also escaped her abusive relationship with Jimmy. Cade's life was also not a walk in the park. Having come from the military, loosing himself in a bottle, the motorcycle club was the only thing for Cade that offered him purpose and a sense of family.
BEYOND THE CUT is book two in the Sinner's Tribe Motorcycle Club series. Although I had not read the first book of the series, I could easily follow along. Sarah Castille is a new author for me. I enjoyed her writing style and can't wait to see what she comes out with next for this series.
