When wealthy heiress Alyssa Brooks learns her stepfather has been paying her fiancรฉ to marry her, she breaks off the engagement. The ex-fiancรฉ is not happy with her decision so he proceeds to threaten Alyssa with revealing a secret she has only shared with him.
Alyssa goes to the one person she knows can protect her, former Marine Hunter Reece. Hunter is dealing with nightmares from his past but will do whatever it takes to protect Alyssa. They both are carrying guilt from the past and use their own forms of therapy to deal with it.
EXPOSING THE HEIRESS is a delightful read and I was surprised with this book because the imagery of photographs and sculptures described were easily visible and came to life when reading. Both of these individuals carry around guilt and pain, and deal with it in their own personal fashion. Alyssa decides she will not allow her scum bag ex-fiancee to destroy her one cherished memory. And this slip of a girl helps a tough former marine to realize he is worth loving.
There are two other books in the Once a Marine series I have not had the pleasure of reading, but I was able to follow EXPOSING THE HEIRESS with no problem. I love reading anything involving a military man, and what's not to enjoy about a sexy Marine. Jennifer Apodaca did such a wonderful story of portraying the personal and vulnerable side of a tough Marine and his means of dealing with the aftermath of war, and the way the wealthy heiress used photographs and videos to tell the story of how different individuals dealt with various adversities.
EXPOSING THE HEIRESS is a wonderful read!
