Contemporary Chick Lit

Melissa Romney-Jones has just been told that her position at a London real estate firm has been deemed "redundant." Getting laid off from a job is nothing new for Melissa, as it's happened several times in the past couple years. Despite this setback, she refuses to let the bad news chip away at her sunny disposition. With rent and bills piling up, she has to get on her feet fast. A loan from her well- connected, yet selfish and rude father is most certainly out of the question. After deciding to capitalize on her strongest skill set -- party planning, image and wardrobe consulting, and home decorating for an all-male clientele -- Melissa creates The Little Lady Agency. To keep her personal life and professional life separate, Melissa conjures up an alter- ego named Honey to conduct her professional business. Honey is a confident, curvy, blonde bombshell with attitude to boot. While Honey is sorting out the lives of countless men, it seems that Honey helps Melissa get clear about relationship and self-esteem issues in her own life. Melissa is very much a naïve good-girl type whose personality, charm and grace are definitely a throw-back to the 1950s. She's also an underdog as she's clearly gotten run over by her father and previous boyfriends. Melissa is instantly likable and I found myself rooting for her at every turn. This is by far the most delightful novel I've read in the past year. The story and the characters are fresh, interesting and abundantly charming. The story is narrated with a British accent that adds to its wit and charm without distracting my American ear. I absolutely loved this story and can't wait for Ms. Browne to pen another!

SUMMARY

Melissa Romney-Jones can bake a perfect sponge cake, type her little heart out, and plan a party blindfolded. But none of that has helped her get far in life or in love. When she gets sacked -- again -- she decides to market her impeccable social skills to single men. To avoid embarrassing her father, a Member of Parliament, Melissa dons a blonde wig and becomes "Honey," a no-nonsense bombshell who helps clueless bachelors shop, entertain, and navigate social minefields. She even attends parties if a client needs a "date." But when a dashing American starts to request Honey's services on a regular basis, it's only a matter of time before Honey's and Melissa's worlds collide....
