Evie Randall has always thought Thomas Heyworth was her
father, even though the eccentric millionaire who took her
into his home when she was orphaned at 11 has never
publicly acknowledged her as his daughter. When Heyworth is
murdered, Evie hounds the police to find his killer. But
Heyworth, a published mystery writer, knew who planned to
kill him and created a treasure hunt for the winner to not
only inherit his millions, but also discover the identity
of his killer.
There are six players in the treasure hunt. Evie is paired
with Max Galloway, a sexy police detective as well as
Heyworth's stepson. The lawyer gathers all the players at
the Heyworth mansion on Heyworth Island near Port Henry,
Washington. At the opening of the treasure hunt, Evie
receives a letter that Heyworth wrote just before he was
murdered. It appears that one of the participants in the
treasure hunt is the killer.
Evie looks for motive among the players, and knowing that
Max hated his stepfather and the feeling was mutual, Evie
wonders if he did it. Yet, each time Evie finds herself the
repeated victim of foul play, Max comes to her rescue. She
discovers that even though Thomas despised Max, she can't
find it in herself to hate him or even dislike him.
Actually, she likes him quite a lot.
Evie and Max race the clock to find all the clues to the
treasure hunt by the game deadline, hoping to get the name
of the killer before the killer finds the last clue and
disposes of the proof.
MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD & EVIE travels the
Washington area in what becomes a fun treasure hunt based
on Heyworth's mystery series. It's interspersed with danger
and humor as Max and Evie find being partners can be a lot
of fun, if not dangerous. They also discover treasure hunts
in life can lead to newly discovered feelings and newly
discovered families. I enjoyed this entertaining and
mysterious story.
I'm dead. Damn.
I was hoping to see how the Mariners wind up this season.
Since I was too busy making my millions writing mysteries
to have any blood heirs, I've decided to set up a treasure
hunt, with the prize being my entire estate.
I've chosen six lucky participants to play, including Evie
Randall, who is like a daughter to me, and Max Galloway, my
stepson. Max is bull-headed and, for a police detective,
he's not too smart about women. And sweet Evie ... She's so
busy taking care of everyone else, a man will have to
literally sweep her off her feet before she'll notice him.
That's why I want them to work together to earn my moolah.
Maybe a hard-headed, good-looking guy and an innocent gal
will hit it off and find love. Weirder things have happened.
And if it turns out that my death was by less-than-natural
causes, Evie and Max might want to join forces to help find
my murderer. Of course, that would mean seriously risking
their own necks. But what the hell, life is a crap shoot,
right? Have fun, kiddies.
