Romance Suspense
All Lauren Ford Burke wanted was a simple divorce and
freedom from her ever cheating husband. Instead he ends
up dead, murdered and she realizes she is finally free
like she wanted and completely alone in the world. To add
further to her turmoil is the detective working on the
case; her ex who ran off breaking her heart three years
ago.
Kane Hollister has promised himself to dedicate his life
to putting away criminals. Getting involved in a
permanent relationship is not on the cards. This is what
made him go away three years ago without informing
Lauren. Now he is back and while he still does not want
to resume the relationship, the change in Lauren is
breaking his heart. Then there is a possible serial
killer setting his sight on Lauren as the next target.
Pushed together in an uneasy alliance, Lauren and Kane
have a hard time ignoring their still sizzling chemistry.
Lauren is determined not get her heart shattered again
believing she is better off alone and Kane thinking he
does not deserve to be happy. Still he does not like the
new Lauren and would do anything to get her to be like
the girl she was. Nothing would keep him away from her
now that her life is in danger for she is one he always
loved. But will they have their HEA or go their separate
ways once the killer is caught?
HIS LAST REDEMPTION is an emotional roller coaster ride.
Kane's hang-ups about not getting into a permanent
relationship and staying away from his family were pretty
confusing and dragged out and bit stupid in my opinion.
Apart from that one major incident, nothing in his life
shows that he was made to be an outsider in his own
family. That was completely his thinking and
stubbornness. I really felt sorry for his mom. Personally
I would have smacked him to get some sense into him way
before now. I think he enjoys being a martyr. Then there
was his belief that Lauren changed thanks to her dead
husband. Seriously? He left her without notice,
justifying to himself that she should have known he does
not do permanent after spending years taking care of her
making her dependent on him. Yet he blames it all on her
husband. On the other hand, when he finally got over the
self-denial, he is sweet caring man who would do anything
to protect his loved ones.
Loved Lauren and how she managed to keep herself together
after the emotional turmoil she faced in her life and
still be a success. She is one strong-willed lady who is
not afraid to admit to her insecurities and mistakes. I
would have preferred if she had not given in to Kane
quickly but I was rooting for her all the way. Ms. Yip
captured the emotions and the turmoil perfectly in HIS
LAST REDEMPTION. I had tears in my eyes and a tissue in
my hand throughout. Through their stubbornness and
beliefs you can see just how human they are. HIS LAST
REDEMPTION is not a perfect fairy tale romance but one
with high running emotions with moments of high and low.
A not to be missed read if you like second chances at HEA
but not if you want suspense. I figured the mystery out
half-way through and I was right about it.
