Romance Contemporary

Poppy Winters has everything she needs in the little cottage where she grew up, designing her sweaters, and visiting her friends in the village when she gets lonely. Having lost both of her parents, the cottage is her only connection left to them. Unfortunately the new heir and owner of Cranford Hall would soon be arriving and he wants to evict her out of her home, so that the new head gardener can move in.

Determined to not give up, Poppy is willing to fight for her home and memories. As a storm causes havoc outside, Poppy hears a knock on the door, only to find a gorgeous, injured man literally fall into her arms. After phoning the Doctor, her friend, she is advised to keep him warm and look after him until the storm passes.

When the stranger calls out, feverish and shivering, he cuddles Poppy to warm up. But when Poppy realises that the sensual dream she thought she had, was in fact reality, she is shocked. And worse, the next morning the handsome stranger does not remember the previous night, but he does recall his identity - Guy Devereau, the new owner.

As friendship and attraction grows between the two, many hurdles are thrown in their way - an unwanted fiancé, jealousy, a disastrous business deal, and an unexpected surprise. Will Poppy ever have the love and family that she truly deserves, or will she leave behind her home and her heart?

STORM DAMAGE by Lorna McKenzie is a short romantic tale laden with misunderstandings and undeclared love. I enjoyed the premise of the story but felt it was a little rushed. Poppy and Guy are interesting characters and I would have liked to have gotten to know them better. STORM DAMAGE by Lorna McKenzie is a quick romantic read.

SUMMARY

As the power lines come down, the night heats up. So the Devereau lawyers expect Poppy Winters to quietly vacate the beloved Dorset cottage in which she was born? Not bloody likely. Poppy’s family tree is as firmly planted in Cranford Hall soil as any blue-blooded Devereau, and she will not be moved. The injured man who crashes into her living room, accompanied by a howling winter storm, shakes her composure to the core. Especially when a power outage forces them to keep each other warm till morning. But with the dawn comes a shocking realization: he has no memory of the previous night, but he remembers his name. Guy Devereau, the new owner of Cranford Hall. And he’s got a woman—Nerissa—claiming to be his fiancée. Yet as winter’s chill settles in, Guy slowly and not-so-subtly disturbs her life in every wicked way—her knitwear business, her body, her soul…and her heart. This Retro Romance reprint was originally published in 1993 by Robert Hale, Ltd.
