Danielle Mansfield is trying to get her life back on track, and that means moving to the small community of Carson Mills, with her fifteen year old son, Ethan. Discovering that her deceased husband had squandered all of their money on his long-term mistress, has forced the move for Danielle, but there were other reasons. The cabin at the lake in the little town has always held a special place in her heart, and she hoped it would work some magic on her relationship with her troubled son. Angry and detached, Danielle fears that Ethan is going down the wrong path. Danielle also needs to get control of her life again from her parents, who have taken many decisions out of her hands. But Danielle never expected to run into Matt Kovacs, the only man she has ever loved, and the man who had abandoned her when she had needed him the most.
Matt Kovacs is shocked and delighted to find Dani living in the same town. Having got his act together years ago, he is now working as a teacher and volunteering for his local church, as a youth pastor. Desperate to reach out to Danielle, he understands that she is hesitant because of their troubled past, but when she asks him to help her son, he doesn't hesitate.
As their feelings for each other resurface, Danielle and Matt are forced to revisit their tragic history. As lies, secrets and betrayals are revealed, will Danielle and Matt be able to forgive and move on? And will Ethan learn the error of his ways before it is too late?
LIKE A BAD PENNY by Selena Fulton is a sweet story about second chances. Both Danielle and Matt have made mistakes and it is heartbreaking to watch them struggle to trust again. Faith is a strong component of this novel, and is at the heart of the community and the relationships within it. I enjoyed the secondary characters, like Madi, as they help bring Danielle's character to life. At times, I did wish that Danielle would just have a little more backbone, and say what she has to say, but overall I like her character.
LIKE A BAD PENNY by Selena Fulton is brimming with hope, tenderness and belief, and is an enjoyable read.
