It is the twelfth century in England and King Henry is at the centre of another plot. After almost losing power to his rebellious Queen Eleanor, he has her imprisoned, and proceeds to seek an annulment. King Henry then plans to introduce his first secret wife, AmΓ©lie, his daughter, Theodosia, and her husband and children. He wants them in hiding no longer.
Plans never seem to work out as they should. When the King's mistress is attacked, there is only one man he would trust to find the intruder - Sir Benedict Palmer, Theodosia's husband. Weary of leaving his wife and children behind, he is convinced that the King needs him more urgently. But treachery is afoot, for not only is the King's mistress in danger, but Palmer and his family, and even the King himself. For although imprisoned, Queen Eleanor has supporters trying to clear the way for her to reign. And as both Palmer and Theodosia find themselves facing death, will the truth be discovered in time? With evil lurking in the most common of places, will treachery triumph over love?
Although THE BLOOD OF THE FIFTH KNIGHT by E.M. Powell is a sequel, it is also possible to read it as a standalone novel. The story is rich in detail and historical reference, and the characters came alive before my eyes, as their lives unfolded. With adventure, danger and love woven wonderfully with the Medieval era, THE BLOOD OF THE FIFTH KNIGHT by E.M. Powell, is a pleasure to read.
England, 1176. King Henry II has imprisoned his rebellious
Queen for attempting to overthrow him. But with her
conspirators still at large and a failed assassination
attempt on his beautiful mistress, Rosamund Clifford, the
King must take action to preserve his reign.
Desperate, Henry turns to the only man he trusts: a man
whose skills have saved him once before. Sir Benedict
Palmer
answers the call, mistakenly believing that his family
will
remain safe while he attends to his King.
As Palmer races to secure the throne for the King, neither
man senses the hand of a brilliant schemer, a mystery
figure
loyal to Henryβs traitorous Queen who will stop at nothing
to see the King defeated.
The Blood of the Fifth Knight is an intricate medieval
murder mystery and a worthy sequel to E. M. Powellβs
acclaimed historical thriller The Fifth Knight.
