Eliza DeMatteo has returned to Las Vegas to visit her brother Jackson, for the holidays. On New Years Eve Jackson is forced to cancel their dinner plans, as a large accident has occurred and he is a surgeon. But Jackson assures her she won't be alone as he has organised their childhood friend, Chris, to take her out. Little does Jackson know how difficult this will be for her.
Years ago, just before Chris and her brother left for college, Eliza had thought Chris had feelings for her, the same strong feelings that she had for him. On an impulse she had kissed him. Initially he had responded but then he pushed her away and told her she was too young. Humiliated and heartbroken, Eliza has never fully gotten over Chris.
Chris is now a vet specialising in horses. When he inadvertently bumps into Eliza before their date, he doesn't even recognise her. As the evening progresses, his long held feelings for her resurface. Their attraction is instant but he tries to block himself off from her. After all, Eliza is only here for a visit, and he has witnessed first hand, that long distance relationships never work out. No it's much easier to ignore this heat between them. But when the heat becomes unbearable, will Eliza put her heart and her pride on the line again? And will Chris push Eliza away, the way he did many years ago?
ONE NIGHT IN VEGAS by C.M. Stone is a sweet, sassy, short romance. Despite its length, the reader is still able to understand the characters, their past history, and their fears for the future. An enjoyable read, perfect for breaktime.
