The saying "Arrogance knows no bounds" must have been derived from Larissa Ione's REVENANT because the fallen angel clearly doesn't hold his cockiness back. He almost comes across as too strong in the beginning and I wasn't sure I was going to like him at first. When he wants something, he gets it so when Underworld General Hospital doctor Blaspheme turns him down again and again, Rev takes it as a personal challenge.
But that isn't the only thing Revenant needs to worry about. Gethel continues to be a bad presence in the Demonica world where impending danger is right around the corner unless it can be stopped in time.
As Ione continues to expertly weave more complications into this intricate world, readers become sucked into her attitude-filled writing and worldbuilding. I've noticed that in all of Ione's books, she employs this sarcastic and edgy vibe that makes the "big picture" scenes very epic. The back-and-forth banter between Rev and Blaspheme is very entertaining and really strengthens the romance yet when that banter is extended to all characters, I think that's where it can become too over the top and can take away from the seriousness or the suspense of the novel. I wish there had been a better balance of lightness and tension in this book for the sake of variety.
One thing I must note is the sex scenes. As I mentioned earlier, Ione's writing style is very edgy and that translates into the sex as well. I haven't come across such titillating and exciting scenes as these ones are in a while.
For dramatic action and intense passion, Ione's REVENANT ends the series with a bang!
HELL HATH NO FURY . . .
For five thousand years, Revenant believed he was alone in
the world, a fallen angel beyond any redemption. Now he
finds he has a twin brother who had all the light and love
Revenant was denied. Caught in a tug of war between Heaven
and Hell, he must weigh his thirst for revenge against his
desire for a mysterious female named Blaspheme-a female
whose very origins could deliver him into salvation . . .
or
destruction.
LIKE AN ANGEL SCORNED
Blaspheme has a deadly secret: she's the forbidden
offspring
of an angel and a fallen angel. Hunted by both heavenly
and
satanic forces, she has survived only by laying low and
trusting no one. When Revenant claims he can save them
both,
how can she possibly believe him? But the powerful angel
is
persistence incarnate and for Blaspheme, there's no place
she can hide in Heaven or Hell where he won't find her . .
