Clyde, the cat has become a national celebrity. With reporters hounding the animal shelter his staying at, Jillian is asked to foster him. Clyde was given away since his owner was ill. When Clyde escapes and returns to his home, he finds his owner dead. A human interest story if ever the was one.
Jillian and her three cats are open to protecting Clyde from the reporters who want to find their own minutes of fame. One particular reporter is convinced that she can leave the weather behind, if she can just get the scoop she needs.
Even though Clyde's owner, Norm, had cancer, it is discovered that he died of an overdose of digoxin. With Candace investigation a suspicious death, Jillian and Tom must protect Clyde from the press. When Clyde escapes, the press become even more persistent.
While not as enamored of cats as the author is, Ms. Sweeney comes close to making me wish I had one. It's always a pleasure to enter the world of Jillian and Tom as they set out to discover the killer. The Cat in Trouble series is a favorite of mine. THE CAT, THE VAGABOUND, AND THE VICTIM adds another satisfying read to the series.
