In Lancaster County, Pennsylvania we meet young rebel
Lizzie Zook, who has been told that she's taking her
rumspringa or running-around time too far and must settle
down to be baptised. Instead, she uses a shop's computer to
send an email her her community's elders would not approve
of. Lizzie is contacting a splinter of her family, believing
that once Amish, FOREVER AMISH.
Sally's mother left the family when she was young, and her
father advises Sally not to go to Lancaster. As a final
spurt of freedom before her wedding, Sally Bingham drives
down to Lancaster County to meet Lizzie, a stranger to her
but who has been sending her emails recently. Looks like
these two girls have an independent attitude in common!
Sally breeds show dogs, Corgis, and I am amazed that Sally
has had to rehome most of her dogs as her fiancé, Donald,
dislikes dogs. I could not believe this match would happen.
Lizzie explains to Sally that the Amish don't approve of
prideful showing. Dogs are useful working animals, though,
and Corgis are natural herders.
Lizzie brings Sally to her home, since they board English
guests, but Sally feels outnumbered when she sits down to a
fine table of food with ten family members. A family secret
is revealed as Sally has a connection to her host family
that she never knew about, but finding relatives doesn't
solve all her issues. The Amish preach forgiveness, but has
too much happened for anyone to forgive? When Sally heads
home again, it's to figure out what is really important in
her life.
We get to meet the lovely Corgi Ginger. Amusingly the
tourists buy Amish romances written by English women in
the town's store where Lizzie works. These and other
details fill out this gentle romance about women finding
their inner strength and identity. Kate Lloyd shows us that
you can be FOREVER AMISH in your heart even if you were not
born to the life. I enjoyed seeing how Lizzie and Sally's
lives work out and will look for more of Kate Lloyd's books.
It's the Last Thing She Expects to Find
Sally Bingham needs some time away to sort through the
changes in her life and to rethink her
upcoming marriage. Despite her ailing father's
hesitations, she takes off for a bed and breakfast
in Lancaster County for a weekend away. But her best-laid
plans leave her in a near collision with
a bishop's buggy and in the home of a mysterious Amish
woman named Lizzie. Lizzie introduces her
to a different perspective on life, a charming farmhand
named Armin--and opens a Pandora's box
that will forever change Sally's life.
The latest book in the Legacy of Lancaster trilogy,
Forever Amish introduces us to a young woman
about to uncover a shocking secret and find an invitation
to a new way of living. This is a story
of forgiveness, legacies, and the ties that bind through
generations.
