This lively shifter romance is part of the String of Fate series by prolific fantasy and urban fantasy author Bianca D'Arc. We meet Gina, a girl descended from rare white tiger shifters, supposedly a ruling force among the clans but not currently in a position of power. Right at the start Gina has an injured man in her car. Mitch has been poisoned somehow, and all she knows about him is he's from the former Royal Guard of tigers. The issue of the KING'S THRONE may be on the table whether she wants it or not.
Gina is a doctor, and her blood is accepted by all other shifters, so a transfusion is the medicine she provided to Mitch. She takes him out of town to a snow-clad mountain cabin owned by her family and doubles the dose. The wilderness, also, provides the space needed for big cats to roam. The beautiful, majestic white tiger in the woods that Gina becomes has Mitch spellbound, but when he makes his own first shift, they're not prepared for his tawny stripes to turn white. Along with the turned colour comes an extra rush of magical power, so that Mitch now understands why the white tigers are revered. What will this do to the ruling family dynamics?
The action moves to Iceland, where tiger shifters live in a secret home near a volcano research station. Mitch is required to defend Gina's family from a usurper - Mitch is the only young, male white tiger on her side, and he's committed to Gina, loving her with all his heart, teeth, fur and claws. Fire and ice magic are awakened, not the safest thing to do around a volcano, and the werewolves, who attacked Mitch, haven't finished with them yet.
I enjoyed the location details and the way the tigers explored their environment. The relationship that we see developing is sudden and strong, but we're left in no doubt that Gina has met the right man. Fans of romance, shifter tales will love KING'S THRONE by Bianca D'Arc and want to read the others in the String of Fate series.
