Mystery Cozy

Zoe Chase takes a leap of faith and leaves her banking job to buy a diner. Zoe has always been more interested in cooking than banking but her parents and ex-fiance are all convinced she needs an intervention. The diner she buys is in a sketchy part of town near a homeless shelter. To save money, Zoe is sleeping in the diner . While she works on fixing it up, she is operating a food truck selling her specialty of deep fried biscuit bowls. Whatever hasn't sold for the day, goes to the homeless shelter. Zoe has made friends with one of the residents, Ollie, who helps her out and gives her advice on how to enhance her business. Zoe falls afoul of another food truck owner. When he is found dead in her truck, Zoe's life take a turn for the worse. Now, she's a suspect in a murder investigation, her truck is broken into, her pampered cat, Creme Brulee, is kidnapped and her family tries to intervene. Zoe and her new lawyer, Max must work together to solve the mystery. The plot in DEATH ON EAT STREET is extremely clever and interesting to the reader. Couple that with some unique and fascinating characters, J.J. Cook has another winner on the market. You will laugh along with Zoe as she delights in her new friends. Your heart will be in your throat as you experience the threats and the difficult situations she faces.

SUMMARY

Zoe Chase always wanted to own her own restaurant—but first, she’ll have to serve up a heaping helping of meals on wheels, with a side of mystery… When she’s once again passed over for a promotion at work, Zoe decides to take the big leap and go for her dream. She quits, gives up her fancy digs, and buys a fixer-upper diner in a shady part of town. To keep above water during the renovation, she buys a used food truck to serve the downtown and waterfront of Mobile, Alabama. Zoe starts to dish out classic Southern food—but her specialty is her deep-fried biscuit bowls that blow traditional bread bowls away. After a promising start, things start to go downhill faster than a food truck without brakes. First, someone tries to rob the cash register. Next, Zoe is threatened by the owner of a competing food truck for taking their spot. And when the owner ends up dead inside Zoe’s rolling restaurant, Zoe and her sole employee, Ollie, find themselves hopping out of the frying pan into the fryer. They need to find the real killer, before both of them get burned.
